Set sail on an unforgettable 8-day cruise aboard Le Champlain, between Celtic lands and Viking territory. Historical discoveries and stunning scenery will punctuate this trip taking you from Scotland to Norway.
Departing from Glasgow, Scotland's warm cultural capital with a rich artistic and architectural heritage, you will first sail towards Fort William. This harbour town on the shores of Loch Linnhe is steeped in Scottish history and tradition, close to the beautiful and spectacular scenery of Glencoe. Then, you will call at Portree, the largest town on the Isle of Skye, located on the edge of a loch that extends inland.
Le Champlain will sail towards Kirkwall, capital of the Orkney Islands, where numerous seabirds, such as gannets and European shags, have taken up residence.
You will then call at the port of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. This port is well known because just a few kilometres inland lie the remarkable ruins of Scalloway Castle, built in 1600.
Le Champlain will then set a course for Norway, its stunning scenery and its incredible cities and towns. From Olden, a charming village, located a few kilometres from Jostedalsbreen National Park and home to one of the last ice caps in Europe, you will have the opportunity to admire the magnificent Briksdal glacier.
Your ship will first sail to Flåm where you will board the Flåm Railway to take a beautiful train journey high into the mountains of western Norway.
Your cruise will end in Bergen, famous for its Hanseatic wharf that still carries a few traces of the rich historic past of the city founded by the Vikings.

Alain Duault
The novelist, poet, journalist, musicologist and radio and television presenter Alain Duault has been sharing his passion for and knowledge of classical music for more than 30 years. Considered to be one of the greatest opera specialists in France he is now President of the Prix Pelléas jury, and has been made an Officier de la Légion d’Honneur and Commandeur des Arts et Lettres.
Alain Duault studied literature, philosophy and psycho-analysis in Paris, then musicology and piano. His first TV appearance was as a guest of Bernard Pivot for his book of poems, Colorature. This led to a number of radio programmes dedicated to classical music, notably on RTL, the radio station where Alain Duault would be “Mr Classical Music” for 22 years, before joining Radio Classique with daily slots until 2018. A role that he also took on for the France 3 television channel, presenting a number of exceptional programmes (masterclasses with Ruggero Raimondi in the Salle Gaveau, Musiques en fête at the Chorégies d’Orange festival…).
In 1999, he conceived and presented Intégrale Chopin (225 works, 60 pianists), broadcast on France 3. Then in 2001, he wrote and performed an ambitious and very popular show, Verdi, une passion, un destin (with Jean Piat and 250 musicians). In the wake of this success, he wrote and performed two other shows: Victor Hugo, la légende d’un siècle in 2002 and Rencontre avec George Sand (with Marie-Christine Barrault) in 2004 and 2005.
Alain Duault also puts his writing skills to the service of classical music. The author of a number of books, including Dans la peau de Maria Callas, (Le Passeur Éditeur, 2014, pocket edition, 2017), Dictionnaire amoureux illustré de l’Opéra (Plon Gründ, 2016), Ce léger rien des choses qui ont fui, poetry (Gallimard, 2017), he also writes editorials for Classica.

And yet they never forget they are classical musicians and will therefore alternate classical programmes with this popular music which so often inspires them. With its two wooden churches, one red and the other white, plus its breathtaking view of the mouth of the river Oldeelva, Olden looks just like a picture post card. Located a few kilometres from the Jostedalsbreen park, home to one of the last glacier polar icecaps, this little village is a definite must for exploring the blue languages of the Briksdal or Kjennalen glaciers. Make sure you find some time to visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum. Absolutely amazing. Another gem is lake Lovatn and its turquoise waters inviting you to quiet contemplation.

Located at the end of Byfjord, Bergen was the capital of Norway in the 12th and 13th Centuries and has preserved some very beautiful monuments from the time when it was home to royalty. Wandering through Bergen’s streets means going back in time, in search of the hidden treasures that have been listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. A veritable openair museum, Bergen is home to a thriving artistic community of painters, potters, jewellers. The Bergen cable car offers you a splendid panorama over the port and the surrounding fjords. Do not miss the visit to the old quarter with its narrow streets, a testimony of the power of the hanseatic League that controlled trade in Northern Europe at the end of the Middle Ages.
Wonders of the Highlands
Fort William is ideally situated to serve as a gateway to the Highlands. This panoramic tour provides a taste of some of the best scenery that Scotland has to offer.
First, stop at Banavie to visit a architectural masterpiece, Neptune's Staircase, a series of eight locks that raise boats 20 meters from sea level to join the Caledonian Canal. Constructed in the early 19th century by Scottish engineer Thomas Telford, the Canal connects the Scottish east coast at Inverness with the west coast at nearby Corpach.
Continue to the village of Glenfinnan for an interesting visit of the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre. Visit the renowned monument remembering fallen Jacobite clansmen, which is framed by breathtaking Highland countryside. Raise your hat to the lone, kilted highlander perched atop the monument. Enjoy the panoramic views of Loch Shiel, the spectacular highlands, and the Glenfinnan viaduct, which is especially popular with 'Harry Potter' fans.
Your knowledgeable guide will impart information on the monument and viaduct, as well as the history of the area, before you have free time to explore as you wish. You may want to walk up to the viaduct, sit in the cafe and watch the train pass by, or climb to the top of the monument where you will be rewarded with spectacular views.

The steps may be slippery when wet. There is a handrail, lighting and several windows, but some people find the space claustrophobic. Group will not climb the monument together. From the pier, join your local coach for a short transfer to Glen Nevis. Fort William is the largest settlement on the whole western coastline of the Highlands, and is the gateway to Glen Nevis, one of the most picturesque of all the Scottish Glens.
Today enjoy a leisurely hike in this stunning location. Start by admiring the Polldubh Falls, before continuing up into the forest, climbing steeply through the trees. As you pass by further waterfalls, the views will start to open up over Nevis Gorge in front of you, and the mighty Ben Nevis behind you.
Return to the coach along the same route.

From the pier, join your local coach and start your journey from Fort William to one of Scotland's most spectacular places. Surrounded by towering mountains, Glencoe is the iconic highland landscape.
The glen provides some of Scotland’s most dramatic scenery and is a paradise for climbers, walkers and skiers. It is, of course, also the scene of the infamous 1692 massacre. Upon arrival, visit the award-winning Glencoe visitor centre to learn more about the history, geology and nature of this region with a local ranger, before enjoying a moment of free time.
Continue your scenic drive through dramatic mountains, and past sweeping valleys, where your experienced guide will tell you about the dramatic events of the Glencoe Massacre. Your drive will include photostops at key highlights such as the Three Sisters mountains, Buachaille Etive Mor, and Loch Achtriochtan, before sweeping through the Pass of Brander and back along the coast past the famous Castle Stalker back to For William.

From the pier, board your local coach and start your scenic drive and head North onto the Trotternish Peninsula. The route passes the crofting township of Staffin which overlooks the sandy Staffin Bay. Journey around the northern tip of the island, hearing more of the myths and legends of Skye.
Then, take a glimpse of what life was like on Skye a century ago, through a visit to the Skye Museum of Island Life - consisting of a group of small, thatched cottages which depict rural life for crofters and farmers of the past; one cottage is replete with furniture of the period. A short walk from the museum is the grave of one of Scotland’s most famous heroines - Flora McDonald – who rescued Bonnie Prince Charlie and took him “over the sea to Skye”, as the song so famously tells, so he could escape the Hanovarian government.
On your way back to Portree, learn more about the fascinating history of the Isle of Skye and its geography and social history. Passing the curious rock outcrop known as the Old Man of Storr, countinue to Kilt Rock - a dramatic 200-foot high cliff marked in an almost tartan-like pattern by the rock strata and with a waterfall tumbling sheer to the pebbled shore below. Enjoy some time here to absorb the scenery and take photographs.
Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at Somerled Square. A 10 to 15 minute-walk is then required to join the tender.

This tour takes you across the wonderful landscape of Skye, to visit the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland - Dunvegan Castle - stronghold of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod. Explore this beautiful Highland estate, with its own gardens, woodland, burns and sea loch.
Upon arrival, discover the famous Dunvegan Castle. Stronghold of the Chiefs of the Clan MacLeod for nearly 800 years, it still remains their home, and therefore bares the title of the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. The original purpose of the Castle was to keep people out - it was only in 1933 that it was opened to the public for the first time. Inside the Castle itself, there are many treasures to discover, some with quirky tales to tell.
Continue your visit with the castle gardens which were originally laid out in the 18th century and offer paths through woodland glades, shimmering pools and burns fed by cascading waterfalls. Views are amongst the finest in Scotland, with Loch Dunegan and the Black Cuillins as a back-drop.
Then, rejoin your coach for the transfer to Skyeskyns Tanneryin Waternish. Here you will be transported back in time to witness how real sheepskins are made using time honoured methods of leather making - one of the oldest crafts known to man. After the visit, take the opportunity to browse in the shop before returning to the ship.

During this scenic circular tour, explore the beautiful West Mainland of Orkney, location of one of the greatest concentrations of World Heritage prehistoric sites in Britain.
Passing through an area of rich farmland, rolling hills and moorland, fringed by magnificent cliffs, visit the great ceremonial Standing Stones of Stenness and Ring of Brodgar.
Further on, you will arrive at Skara Brae, the most exciting and best-preserved Neolithic village in Northern Europe. The remains of this 5,000-year-old Neolithic village are beautifully preserved and interpreted in a modern visitor centre. Lying beside the pretty, sandy crescent of the Bay of Skaill, this Stone Age settlement was completely buried under sand for thousands of years, until suddenly revealed during a fierce storm in 1850. Amongst the fascinating relics found here are tools, beads, pottery, and whalebone artefacts, spanning over a period of approximately 600 years of occupation, all based on the tough maritime economy. Looking across the village, it gives a good idea of how it looked all those centuries ago, and close inspection of the houses gives a unique insight into how our ancient ancestors lived.
The hardship of life in Skara Brae can be directly contrasted to Orkney's finest manor house, Skaill House, which is located nearby and constitutes the next stop of our journey through ancient Orkney. A powerful bishop built it on an ancient graveyard in 1620.
Finally, return to Kirkwall via Historic Scapa Flow, where you will pause to take photos from the coach. Hear stories of dramatic wartime experiences that make this one of the most renowned stretches of water in world.

This tour gives you the opportunity to enjoy the unique, picturesque landscape of the Shetland Isles and to visit one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Britain. Travelling south along the coastal road, with the sea on one side and the hills of the South Mainland on the other, you will pass through several small settlements.
Upon arrival, start your exploration of the remarkable archaeological site of the Jarlshof Settlement at Sumburgh, located on the southern tip of the mainland. Jarlshof presents one of the most interesting remains of early human habitation, not only in Shetland, but the whole of Scotland. Jarlshof displays an insight into many different peoples and periods, through its monuments and ancient dwellings.
Then, rejoin your coach for a short transfer along the coast to the Sumburgh Head bird cliff, situated at the southern tip of mainland Shetland. Sumburgh Head holds a colony of about 5,000 birds, all breeding in the steep grassy banks and cliffs leading up to the lighthouse and provides the perfect location for viewing puffins.

Today, discover the secret world of the Scottish crofts. The Scottish croft is a small agricultural landholding of a type that has been subject to special legislation applying to the Scottish Highlands since 1886. The legislation was largely a response to the complaints and demands of tenant families who were victims of the Highland Clearances. Nowadays, some crofts still exist and you will have the chance to visit one and discover its tenants life.
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your host who will tell you everything about local culture, agriculture and farming in Shetland. Learn all about the practice of crofting with is very much still a part of Shetland life, along with working on the land.
During your visit, meet the working border collies with their natural herding instinct and you will also have the chance to meet the traditional Shetland sheep and Shetland ponies which are an iconic sight on the Shetland landscape and have had many uses in the past. Enjoy a special moment with your host, who will demonstrate how to work with animals.
A typical snack will be served before the transfer back to the pier.

Enjoy a walking tour from the pier to get to know the capital of Shetland, Lerwick.
You will walk into the town centre pass landmarks such as the Market Cross and the Tolbooth (headquarters for the lifeboar station). Learn about island life while you continue along the cobbled streets to the Town Hall which features a series of stained glass windows depicting the history of Shetland. In the centre of the town you will visit Fort Charlotte, built by Charles II in 1665 and used as a jail and courthouse since then.
You will finally walk to Shetland Museum and Archives, set on the dockside, which tells the story of Shetland's heritage and culture. You will enjoy a private highlights tour here to introduce you to the most important artefacts.
After the tour you may wish to stay and enjoy the museum or town more, or walk back to the ship with your guide.

Briksdal glacier is a part of the Jostedal glacier ice field, which is the largest glacier on the European mainland. The wild glacier is a fantastic work of Nature. Its slope plunges from a height of 3,937 feet (1,200 m) down to the lush, narrow Briksdal Valley. Briksdalsbreen Glacier lies at the end of enchanting Oldedalen valley.
Board your motor coach and start the tour. The trip through Oldedalen valley to Briksdal glacier is an amazing symphony of scenic splendours. From wild flowers to awe-inspiring mountains that are reflected in crystal clear lake waters, to great waterfalls that cascade from vertical mountainsides.
Your motor coach will stop at the mountain lodge, and from the lodge it is about 1.8 mile (3 km), a 45-minute walk on a gravel road up to the glacier. During your walk, enjoy the view onto the gigantic glacier.
If you don't want to walk that far, another option is to be driven by cars (7 seats in each) from the lodge, up to a parking lot which is a 10-minute walk from the glacier. Please note that you pay directly on the site for the transfer by vehicle. We will not be able to pre-book this service and unfortunately during the high season, vehicles are not always running.
Using the same way to get back to the lodge, you will have some more opportunities to take pictures walking down the path. At the lodge, enjoy a snack including tea, coffee and pastries, and some time at leisure in the well-stocked souvenir shop which will make your trip to Briksdal memorable.
- This moderate excursion involves 1 h 30 of walking (3,1 miles) on uneven and sometimes slippery terrain and gravel paths. We recommend you to wear comfortable good walking shoes, sunhat and sunglasses, a warm jacket and a waterproof layer.

The fantastic Nordfjord was created by glaciers, dominated by vikings and now, paddled by you.
Kayaking on a green fjord, in a quiet valley surrounded by steep mountains, waterfalls and blue glaciers, is a memorable experience.
You will start your journey from the old Mølla guest house 5 minutes away by foot from the pier in Olden. Once at the kayak station, you will receive all equipment (kayak, paddle, spray-skirt, safety equipment) and a safety briefing to learn the dos and don’ts of kayaking.
You will be ready to start your tour from the pier, heading out into the fjord. As you follow the contours of the shore, your guide will share their local knowledge about the fjords and glaciers surrounding you. In the distance you will see waterfalls, glaciers and green mountainsides.
After approximately 2 hours of kayak, you will get back to the pier.
- Double kayaks are used. This tour may be cancelled in the case of poor weather conditions. You might get wet, so please bring a change of clothing and footwear with you. Although this tour does not require kayaking experience, participants must be good swimmers and have no fear of water. The fjord water may be very cold.

The fantastic Nordfjord was created by glaciers, dominated by vikings and now, paddled by you. Stand-up paddle boarding is an ancient surf technique where you stand or sit on a big board and paddle with one long oar.
You will start your journey from the pier in Olden. Once at the stand-up paddle station, you will receive all equipment (board, oar, dry suit, wet shoes and safety equipment) and a safety briefing to learn the dos and don’ts of stand-up paddling.
Your experienced guide will then take you throughout beautiful landscapes and magnificent rivers full of unique coloured water from the surrounding glaciers and snowy mountains. Paddling on a green fjord, in a quiet valley surrounded by steep mountains, waterfalls and blue glaciers, is a memorable experience.
After approximately 1 ¼ hour of stand-up paddle, you will get back to the pier.
- This excursion involves paddling approximately 1 hour. All stand-up paddle equipment (board, oar, dry suit, wet shoes and safety equipment) is provided. Although this tour does not require paddling experience, participants must be good swimmers and have no fear of water. The fjord water may be very cold. From the pier, drive to Stryn Lake. What makes Lovatnet so beautiful is the green color that comes from the melt water from the glaciers that lies on the mountain peaks around. The lake has an area of 10.4 square kilometers, and is 52 meters above sea level. Lovatnet has multiple streams from the Jostedals glacier and drains at Loelva to the fjord.
After a photostop, continue to Loen. Leaving the buses, board the new cable car (inaugurated 2017) taking you up to mount Hoven, 1011 metres above the sea – around 200 metres above the tree line in this part of Norway.
Enjoy a coffee-break and spectacular views of the fjord and villages below as well as the surrounding mountain scenery. During your stay at Hoven, you have the possibility to enjoy a short walk to soak up the scenery around you.
After some time at leisure, return by cable car to Loen where your bus will be waiting for you to bring you back to the pier in Olden.

Your tour begins in Flam, a small village on the Aurlandsfjord. From the pier, you will walk to the railway station located next to the port.
The Flam Railway line winds its way up the steep and narrow Flam Valley. Travel along the Flam river, one of the best salmon rivers in the West Country. On the right hand side you will have the opportunity to see the Rjoande Waterfall and the impressive peak of Vibmesnosi. After passing through the longest tunnel at Naali, a most fantastic sight is revealed. To climb the 300 m high Myrdalsberg the line is built on 4 levels. From here you can observe 3 of them, the train standing on the fourth. Then, make a brief stop to admire the Kjosfossen Waterfall.
Upon arrival at Vatnahalsen, refreshments will be served at Vatnahalsen Hotel, a well-known ski resort, very popular during summer and autumn when people come to hike in the mountains or cycle on the old navvy-road.
After the break, enjoy the return with the same railway back to Flam.

This entertaining and interactive experience allows you to engage with the local Vikings and explore their homes and workshops. The Village is a reconstruction of a typical settlement that would have existed over a thousand years ago. History is brought to life through the residents of the Village as they impress you with their axe-throwing and archery skills and demonstrate traditional handicraft methods.
Join in the fun and give some of the activities a go, or get to know the locals better by asking questions and listening to their entertaining tales.

Start your day with a drive to the picturesque village of Dornie, where Eilean Donan Castle majestically stands at the meeting point of three sea lochs. Fort William is ideally situated to serve as a gateway to the Highlands. This panoramic tour provides a taste of some of the best scenery that Scotland has to offer.
First, stop at Banavie to visit a architectural masterpiece, Neptune's Staircase, a series of eight locks that raise boats 20 meters from sea level to join the Caledonian Canal. Constructed in the early 19th century by Scottish engineer Thomas Telford, the Canal connects the Scottish east coast at Inverness with the west coast at nearby Corpach.
Continue to the village of Glenfinnan for an interesting visit of the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre. Visit the renowned monument remembering fallen Jacobite clansmen, which is framed by breathtaking Highland countryside. Raise your hat to the lone, kilted highlander perched atop the monument. Enjoy the panoramic views of Loch Shiel, the spectacular highlands, and the Glenfinnan viaduct, which is especially popular with 'Harry Potter' fans.

The steps may be slippery when wet. There is a handrail, lighting and several windows, but some people find the space claustrophobic. Group will not climb the monument together. From the pier, join your local coach for a short transfer to Glen Nevis. Fort William is the largest settlement on the whole western coastline of the Highlands, and is the gateway to Glen Nevis, one of the most picturesque of all the Scottish Glens.
Today enjoy a leisurely hike in this stunning location. Start by admiring the Polldubh Falls, before continuing up into the forest, climbing steeply through the trees. As you pass by further waterfalls, the views will start to open up over Nevis Gorge in front of you, and the mighty Ben Nevis behind you.

From the pier, board your local coach and start your scenic drive and head North onto the Trotternish Peninsula. The route passes the crofting township of Staffin which overlooks the sandy Staffin Bay. Journey around the northern tip of the island, hearing more of the myths and legends of Skye.
Then, take a glimpse of what life was like on Skye a century ago, through a visit to the Skye Museum of Island Life - consisting of a group of small, thatched cottages which depict rural life for crofters and farmers of the past; one cottage is replete with furniture of the period. On your way back to Portree, learn more about the fascinating history of the Isle of Skye and its geography and social history. Passing the curious rock outcrop known as the Old Man of Storr, countinue to Kilt Rock - a dramatic 200-foot high cliff marked in an almost tartan-like pattern by the rock strata and with a waterfall tumbling sheer to the pebbled shore below. Enjoy some time here to absorb the scenery and take photographs.

Upon arrival, discover the famous Dunvegan Castle. Stronghold of the Chiefs of the Clan MacLeod for nearly 800 years, it still remains their home, and therefore bares the title of the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. The original purpose of the Castle was to keep people out - it was only in 1933 that it was opened to the public for the first time. Inside the Castle itself, there are many treasures to discover, some with quirky tales to tell.
Continue your visit with the castle gardens which were originally laid out in the 18th century and offer paths through woodland glades, shimmering pools and burns fed by cascading waterfalls. Views are amongst the finest in Scotland, with Loch Dunegan and the Black Cuillins as a back-drop.
Then, rejoin your coach for the transfer to Skyeskyns Tanneryin Waternish. Here you will be transported back in time to witness how real sheepskins are made using time honoured methods of leather making - one of the oldest crafts known to man. During this scenic circular tour, explore the beautiful West Mainland of Orkney, location of one of the greatest concentrations of World Heritage prehistoric sites in Britain.
Passing through an area of rich farmland, rolling hills and moorland, fringed by magnificent cliffs, visit the great ceremonial Standing Stones of Stenness and Ring of Brodgar.
Further on, you will arrive at Skara Brae, the most exciting and best-preserved Neolithic village in Northern Europe. The remains of this 5,000-year-old Neolithic village are beautifully preserved and interpreted in a modern visitor centre. Lying beside the pretty, sandy crescent of the Bay of Skaill, this Stone Age settlement was completely buried under sand for thousands of years, until suddenly revealed during a fierce storm in 1850. Amongst the fascinating relics found here are tools, beads, pottery, and whalebone artefacts, spanning over a period of approximately 600 years of occupation, all based on the tough maritime economy. Looking across the village, it gives a good idea of how it looked all those centuries ago, and close inspection of the houses gives a unique insight into how our ancient ancestors lived.
The hardship of life in Skara Brae can be directly contrasted to Orkney's finest manor house, Skaill House, which is located nearby and constitutes the next stop of our journey through ancient Orkney. A powerful bishop built it on an ancient graveyard in 1620.
Finally, return to Kirkwall via Historic Scapa Flow, where you will pause to take photos from the coach. Hear stories of dramatic wartime experiences that make this one of the most renowned stretches of water in world.

This tour gives you the opportunity to enjoy the unique, picturesque landscape of the Shetland Isles and to visit one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Britain. Travelling south along the coastal road, with the sea on one side and the hills of the South Mainland on the other, you will pass through several small settlements.
Upon arrival, start your exploration of the remarkable archaeological site of the Jarlshof Settlement at Sumburgh, located on the southern tip of the mainland. Jarlshof presents one of the most interesting remains of early human habitation, not only in Shetland, but the whole of Scotland. Jarlshof displays an insight into many different peoples and periods, through its monuments and ancient dwellings.
Then, rejoin your coach for a short transfer along the coast to the Sumburgh Head bird cliff, situated at the southern tip of mainland Shetland. Today, discover the secret world of the Scottish crofts. The Scottish croft is a small agricultural landholding of a type that has been subject to special legislation applying to the Scottish Highlands since 1886. The legislation was largely a response to the complaints and demands of tenant families who were victims of the Highland Clearances. Nowadays, some crofts still exist and you will have the chance to visit one and discover its tenants life.
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your host who will tell you everything about local culture, agriculture and farming in Shetland. Learn all about the practice of crofting with is very much still a part of Shetland life, along with working on the land.
During your visit, meet the working border collies with their natural herding instinct and you will also have the chance to meet the traditional Shetland sheep and Shetland ponies which are an iconic sight on the Shetland landscape and have had many uses in the past. Enjoy a special moment with your host, who will demonstrate how to work with animals.

Enjoy a walking tour from the pier to get to know the capital of Shetland, Lerwick.
You will walk into the town centre pass landmarks such as the Market Cross and the Tolbooth (headquarters for the lifeboar station). Learn about island life while you continue along the cobbled streets to the Town Hall which features a series of stained glass windows depicting the history of Shetland. In the centre of the town you will visit Fort Charlotte, built by Charles II in 1665 and used as a jail and courthouse since then.
You will finally walk to Shetland Museum and Archives, set on the dockside, which tells the story of Shetland's heritage and culture. You will enjoy a private highlights tour here to introduce you to the most important artefacts.
After the tour you may wish to stay and enjoy the museum or town more, or walk back to the ship with your guide.

Briksdal glacier is a part of the Jostedal glacier ice field, which is the largest glacier on the European mainland. The wild glacier is a fantastic work of Nature. Its slope plunges from a height of 3,937 feet (1,200 m) down to the lush, narrow Briksdal Valley. Briksdalsbreen Glacier lies at the end of enchanting Oldedalen valley.
Board your motor coach and start the tour. The trip through Oldedalen valley to Briksdal glacier is an amazing symphony of scenic splendours. From wild flowers to awe-inspiring mountains that are reflected in crystal clear lake waters, to great waterfalls that cascade from vertical mountainsides.
Your motor coach will stop at the mountain lodge, and from the lodge it is about 1.8 mile (3 km), a 45-minute walk on a gravel road up to the glacier. During your walk, enjoy the view onto the gigantic glacier.
If you don't want to walk that far, another option is to be driven by cars (7 seats in each) from the lodge, up to a parking lot which is a 10-minute walk from the glacier. Please note that you pay directly on the site for the transfer by vehicle. We will not be able to pre-book this service and unfortunately during the high season, vehicles are not always running.
Using the same way to get back to the lodge, you will have some more opportunities to take pictures walking down the path. At the lodge, enjoy a snack including tea, coffee and pastries, and some time at leisure in the well-stocked souvenir shop which will make your trip to Briksdal memorable.
- This moderate excursion involves 1 h 30 of walking (3,1 miles) on uneven and sometimes slippery terrain and gravel paths. We recommend you to wear comfortable good walking shoes, sunhat and sunglasses, a warm jacket and a waterproof layer.

The fantastic Nordfjord was created by glaciers, dominated by vikings and now, paddled by you.
Kayaking on a green fjord, in a quiet valley surrounded by steep mountains, waterfalls and blue glaciers, is a memorable experience.
You will start your journey from the old Mølla guest house 5 minutes away by foot from the pier in Olden. Once at the kayak station, you will receive all equipment (kayak, paddle, spray-skirt, safety equipment) and a safety briefing to learn the dos and don’ts of kayaking.
You will be ready to start your tour from the pier, heading out into the fjord. As you follow the contours of the shore, your guide will share their local knowledge about the fjords and glaciers surrounding you. In the distance you will see waterfalls, glaciers and green mountainsides.
After approximately 2 hours of kayak, you will get back to the pier.
- Double kayaks are used. This tour may be cancelled in the case of poor weather conditions. You might get wet, so please bring a change of clothing and footwear with you. Although this tour does not require kayaking experience, participants must be good swimmers and have no fear of water. The fjord water may be very cold.

The fantastic Nordfjord was created by glaciers, dominated by vikings and now, paddled by you. Stand-up paddle boarding is an ancient surf technique where you stand or sit on a big board and paddle with one long oar.
You will start your journey from the pier in Olden. Once at the stand-up paddle station, you will receive all equipment (board, oar, dry suit, wet shoes and safety equipment) and a safety briefing to learn the dos and don’ts of stand-up paddling.
Your experienced guide will then take you throughout beautiful landscapes and magnificent rivers full of unique coloured water from the surrounding glaciers and snowy mountains. Paddling on a green fjord, in a quiet valley surrounded by steep mountains, waterfalls and blue glaciers, is a memorable experience.
After approximately 1 ¼ hour of stand-up paddle, you will get back to the pier.
- This excursion involves paddling approximately 1 hour. All stand-up paddle equipment (board, oar, dry suit, wet shoes and safety equipment) is provided. Although this tour does not require paddling experience, participants must be good swimmers and have no fear of water. The fjord water may be very cold. Participants must be under 6’2.8” tall (190 cm) and weigh under 286 pounds (130 kgs). Pregnant women, those with back problems, and children under age 12 are not permitted. From the pier, drive to Stryn Lake. What makes Lovatnet so beautiful is the green color that comes from the melt water from the glaciers that lies on the mountain peaks around. The lake has an area of 10.4 square kilometers, and is 52 meters above sea level. Lovatnet has multiple streams from the Jostedals glacier and drains at Loelva to the fjord.
After a photostop, continue to Loen. Leaving the buses, board the new cable car (inaugurated 2017) taking you up to mount Hoven, 1011 metres above the sea – around 200 metres above the tree line in this part of Norway.
Enjoy a coffee-break and spectacular views of the fjord and villages below as well as the surrounding mountain scenery. During your stay at Hoven, you have the possibility to enjoy a short walk to soak up the scenery around you.
After some time at leisure, return by cable car to Loen where your bus will be waiting for you to bring you back to the pier in Olden.

Your tour begins in Flam, a small village on the Aurlandsfjord. From the pier, you will walk to the railway station located next to the port.
The Flam Railway line winds its way up the steep and narrow Flam Valley. Travel along the Flam river, one of the best salmon rivers in the West Country. On the right hand side you will have the opportunity to see the Rjoande Waterfall and the impressive peak of Vibmesnosi. After passing through the longest tunnel at Naali, a most fantastic sight is revealed. To climb the 300 m high Myrdalsberg the line is built on 4 levels. From here you can observe 3 of them, the train standing on the fourth. Then, make a brief stop to admire the Kjosfossen Waterfall.
Upon arrival at Vatnahalsen, refreshments will be served at Vatnahalsen Hotel, a well-known ski resort, very popular during summer and autumn when people come to hike in the mountains or cycle on the old navvy-road.
After the break, enjoy the return with the same railway back to Flam.

This entertaining and interactive experience allows you to engage with the local Vikings and explore their homes and workshops. History is brought to life through the residents of the Village as they impress you with their axe-throwing and archery skills and demonstrate traditional handicraft methods.

At Vatnahalsen, the penultimate station on the line, gear up to ride the longest zip-line in Scandinavia. Feel free as a bird and soak up the incredible views as you soar high above the beautiful landscape, zooming down the 4,500-foot line.
With your feet firmly on the ground in Kaardal, follow your guide on a downhill hike back to the valley floor. Enjoy the peaceful countryside as you make your way to Blomheller station to re-board the train and return to Flam.
