Set off with PONANT on an itinerary along the Norwegian coastline, where cliffs carved by the sea and the wind produce still wild fjords, between snow-capped mountains and frosted landscapes. From Tromso, set off aboard Le Bellot for a 11-day cruise discovering these natural beauties.
Your embarkation in Tromso will mark the start of your immersion in the land of the Sami, a reindeer-herding ancestral people. From fascinating Alta to historic Narvik, you will be privileged to encounter one of the last indigenous cultures on European soil, during the visit of a traditional camp, the telling of age-old stories or sessions chasing the Northern Lights.
Your ship will then make its way south. You will witness the mysterious charm of the Lofoten archipelago. These islands have landscapes of surreal beauty alternating between sea, spectacular fjords, mountain slopes and bright-coloured huts on stilts.
Le Bellot will then reach the Norwegian town of Geiranger and its sublime fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before crossing the Arctic Circle. You will take the Eagle Road - the only road in winter, - which offers breathtaking views of the fjord, the impressive Seven Sisters waterfall and the farms in Eisdal village.
You will then reach Bergen, a city founded by the Vikings almost a thousand years ago, and renowned for its seven mountains encircling the city centre and the Hanseatic wharf in the charming and picturesque historic district of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your ship will finally head for Copenhagen, your disembarkation port.

In the north of the Arctic circle you’ll discover Tromsø, a secluded town located in the county of Troms. Norwegians call it the “Paris of the north”. You’ll soon see why when you discover its extensive neoclassical architectural heritage. A stunning example is the Arctic cathedral, a major monument whose stylistic purity echoes the outline of the mountains surrounding the town.

Beyond the Arctic Circle, Alta, in the far north of Norway, is the biggest city in Finnmark county. Alta will reveal itself to you at the end of the eponymous fjord, Altafjorden. The region offers a mix of forest, mountainous and coastal landscapes. It is on the verge of obtaining the “sustainable destination” label, a national label awarded to destinations that are committed to a sustainable approach to tourism for the long term. Alta invites you to experience unique moments, whether meeting the Sami people ─ reindeer herders who have ancestral traditions and yet embrace modernity ─ or during walks, snowshoe hikes or dog sledding, depending on the season.

During your journey at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Day 2 - Lulea / Sjulsmark
After breakfast, you will set off to meet the Sámi of Sweden, who are one of the world’s last indigenous peoples, with their own language and culture. You will enjoy talking with them about their traditions and their way of life, which are very closely connected to nature. It will be a particularly enriching moment during which you will learn all about the heritage of this people, a heritage that these days can still be found in Lapland’s architecture, contemporary art and culinary traditions. For centuries, the Sámi have built their way of life around reindeer breeding and herding; the reindeer are bred mainly for their antlers, fur and milk. The Sámi are also renowned for their traditional handicraft, known as Duodji, which has been passed down for generations.
Thanks to this activity, you will enjoy a genuine experience of the life of the Sámi and their day-to-day in Swedish Lapland. You will drink freshly boiled coffee around the fire in a lavvu (Sámi tent), before heading out to meet the reindeer.
After eating a typical Sámi meal around a traditional fire for lunch, you will enjoy a dog-sled ride into the heart of majestic landscapes of frozen rivers and wild forests, an unforgettable close-up encounter with Lappish nature.
After dining in a local restaurant, you will depart on a bus excursion to observe the Northern Lights.
The guide will make regular short stops, to explain this fascinating phenomenon and ensure that you enjoy optimal viewing in the best conditions (subject to favourable weather conditions).
Then, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 3 - Kiruna
After breakfast, you will take the train to Kiruna (a journey of around 4 hours), the largest town in Swedish Lapland.
On arrival, you will have lunch in a local restaurant and then head to your hotel, which is located 200-km (124-miles) north of the Arctic Circle. You will be able to discover the incredible ice sculptures that have earned this hotel’s reputation all over the world.
Then, you will have dinner and spend the night there.
Day 4 - Kiruna / Bjørkliden
After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to handle and drive your own reindeer and sled along an approximately 10-km (6-miles) long trail through Sápmi’s vast and gorgeous winter landscapes. This is an incredible and very hands-on eco-adventure, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a truly traditional Sámi activity.
The reindeer sledding guide will take you via a short minibus transfer to the Sautosjohka reindeer enclosures where you will meet your travel companion for the day. After you spend some time actively reindeer sled driving, your guide will prepare a typical, tasty reindeer herder lunch: with suovas (smoked reindeer meat cooked directly over the fire), served on gáhkku bread with a dash of lingonberry jam, with a cup of freshly boiled coffee around the fire.
You will then reach the Aurora Sky Station, the best observation point for the Northern Lights, where you will dine before heading back to your hotel and spending the night there.
Day 5 - Bjørkliden / Tromsø
After breakfast, you will then take a bus to Polar Park, located 75-km (47 miles) north of Narvik in the town of Bardu, your gateway to Norway’s wild expanses, with large areas offering a habitat that is as natural as possible for the animals.
This reserve is home to native Arctic animals including bears, wolves, and lynxes as well as deer, moose, reindeer and musk oxen.
You will then have lunch in a local restaurant on the road to Tromsø, where you will embark on board your ship.
