Situated on the edge of Lake Canaçari, which is fed by the Urubu River, a tributary of the Amazon, Silves is one of the oldest municipalities in the region. Established in the 17th century by Jesuit missionaries, it was later the site of confrontations between the indigenous populations and the Portuguese settlers. Now part of the Greater Manaus metropolitan area, Silves boasts an exceptional natural setting combining tropical rainforest and rich aquatic diversity. It is the home of the Caboclos, people of mixed Indigenous Brazilian and Portuguese ancestry, who subsist mainly on fishing. You will also discover Botos, which was given its name by the local population in reference to the famous pink dolphin, emblematic animal of the region.
