The Kamchatka Peninsula lies in the Russian Far East between the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk. It is 1,250 km (777 miles) long. No road leads to this extremely remote region with a very low population density. To the north of the peninsula, there are only a few nomadic, reindeer- and walrus-hunting peoples living in the vast expanses of low-lying tundra and eroded mountains. In the village of Tymlat, you will have the possibility of discovering that, despite the harsh climate, the Koryak people continue to maintain a traditional way of life that includes hunting, fishing and shamanic rituals. The west coast is also home to colonies of Steller sea lions and of walruses which you might have the possibility of observing.
