Founded by the Greeks in 600 BC, Constanta was later captured by the Romans. It became a part of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century, until Romania was recognised as an independent state in 1878. Its multiple influences make this a city with a fascinating architecture. Here you will find Greek and Roman vestiges, such as the magnificent Roman mosaic, but also an Art Nouveau casino on the edge of the Black Sea, the Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral, and the picturesque streets of the old city. Do not miss the visit to the National Museum of History and Archaeology, which will reveal all the secrets of its history spanning millennia. The long white-sand beaches lining Constanta make this a welcoming seaside resort that is very popular with tourists.
