Paul Gauguin Cruises and PONANT are delighted to unveil the new interior design of Le Paul Gauguin, a specialist cruise ship specifically used for operating cruises in the South Pacific.

After joining PONANT in September 2019, Paul Gauguin Cruises set about the task of refurbishing Le Paul Gauguin in a chic, fresh style designed to further strengthen its trademark elegant Polynesian look and feel inspired by the islands of Tahiti, French Polynesia, Fiji and those of the South Pacific, and to bring the ship up to standard in terms of environmental friendliness.

A design inspired by Polynesia

Le Paul Gauguin is outfitted with a look designed by Studio Jean-Philippe Nuel that evokes South Seas elegance and the storied islands that the iconic ship sails. The refurbishment enhances the historical interior of the vessel made of warm and dark woodworks and strengthens the local identity. The new fresh palette incorporates lagoon shades, a wide range of green and natural tones, warm color touches, vegetal patterns and woven textiles. Some iconic printed exotic panoramics, traditional artworks and a virtual museum presenting more than 150 paintings of the artist Paul Gauguin end to merge the guests into a local and exotic environment.

All staterooms and suites, as well as the public spaces, were renovated: Le Grand Salon, three restaurants, Piano Bar, La Palette Lounge, Spa and Salon, Boutique, Pool Deck, Reception are and the gym.

Respect for the environment

Minimizing the impact on the environment is one of the highest priorities of the company. The line completely eliminated the use of heavy fuel oil by using a much cleaner fuel (LS MGO – Low-Sulphur Marine Gas Oil) and offset 150 percent of its carbon emissions. Le Paul Gauguin’s environmental upgrades follow this path which also includes water treatment and consumption optimisation along with energy-saving initiatives.
